Ready to jump into the digital product pond? This post will explain what your ebook should be about, how to design it and the different ways to sell it…
What should your ebook be about?
This is where you need to look at your audience and the topics you cover. Is there something that your audience ask you over and over? Is there something that you know a lot about that you could teach?
- If you’re a food blogger, could you put together a collection of recipes?
- If you’re a fashion blogger, could you share your tips for curating a capsule wardrobe? Or how to shop sustainably?
- If you’re a photographer, could you share tips for taking flatlays or self-portraits?
- If you’re a full-time blogger, could you share tips on working with brands?
It doesn’t matter what niche you are in, there is something that could be turned into an ebook. Do some research into the types of content created within your niche and see what ebooks are already available.
How to design your ebook?
There are so many ways to go about designing your ebook, but here are some of our favourites
- Canva – Canva is a drag-and-drop design platform with hundreds of pre-made templates, graphics and icons. They already have a number of ebook templates to get you started or if you’re comfortable you can create one from scratch. It also has a number of fonts and colours to choose from so you can customise the design to suit your branding.
- Apple Pages – If you’ve got a Mac, then you can use Apple’s word processor called Pages to put together a PDF. It has a number of templates available that you can customise and allows you to add tables, charts, shapes and media to your documents.
- Google Slides – This is one of my favourite tricks! You can use a tool like Google Slides or Apple Keynote to put together a presentation, then download it as a PDF.
- Adobe InDesign – InDesign is the industry go-to when it comes to creating publishing documents. It’s an advanced page design software so may be more than you need but it has a whole load of features and options for designing an ebook.
How to sell your ebook?
Again, there are so many ways to sell your ebook these days. You can do it through your existing site or by using a third party platform.
- Sell through your WordPress site – Easy Digital Downloads is an excellent plugin to use to sell digital products through your WordPress site. Simply install the EDD plugin on your WordPress site, fill in your details and add your ebook as a product.
- Sell through your Squarespace site – Squarespace offers a quick and easy way to manage and sell products. Simply setup your ecommerce store and add your products.
- Sell on a third party site – There are hundreds of options for selling your ebook on a third party. You can use a platform like Gumroad, Payhip, Selz, E-Junkie, Blurb or even Amazon.
