Issue 19 (ebook)

Alfie Deyes has always intrigued me. As I mention in the cover interview, over the years his name always seems to crop up in interviews with other influencers. He’s the one they watch. The one they praise. The one they describe as the entrepreneur of the influencer industry.

With the launch of our podcast – Blogosphere: Serious Influence (*shamelessly plugs*) – which focuses on the business side of the industry, I have become even more interested in the mechanics of the financial side of this world.

The interview with Alfie fell after I’d started recording the podcast, and also neatly after Alfie had decided to re-brand (less tween idol, more entrepreneurial creator). The result meant that we got a very business focused interview (p32). I hope that you find it useful – and an enjoyable read. Also shout out to Kyle Galvin for his first cover! The images are amazing!

This issue, we also speak to Canadian YouTube sensation Elle Mills. The 20 year old, who is no stranger to going viral (she legally married her sister’s boyfriend for a video), discusses the toll that fame has had on her mental health, the importance of good management and her plans for the future (p7).

We have interviews with Sammi Jefcoate, who discusses sustainable fashion and motherhood (p74) and Nerd About Town, who opens up about Twitter trolls and the importance of diverse decision makers (p147). Our ‘in conversation with…’ features Sara Tasker (Me and Orla) and Jen Carrington, who discuss podcasting, audience interaction and the importance of diversifying your income (p58).

Features include a look into the rise of AI influencers and what this could mean for the industry (p100), the positives to being an anonymous blogger (p154), and how algorithms are having a negative impact on diversity (p54).

Looking for some tips? On page 86 we take a look at the new resource for ASA guidelines, we explore best practice when launching your own podcast on page 158, and PetiteElliee gives us some advice on finding Instagrammable locations on page 112.

I hope that you enjoy the issue and I’ll see you back here in spring…
